And while I’m at it, I will also play Free Bird
Posted by: sofi in Conversations, Music, Oh My LifeI was a guest DJ at Shake-a-Tail on Saturday night. It was a super rad night and I was that perfect amount of happy-drunk where one believes oneself to be a) the best DJ on the planet and b) the best dancer on the planet. It was pretty great.
Anyway, I am only blogging about it because I had this amusing exchange with an exceptionally wasted patron.
Dude: Heyyyy…do you take requests?
Me: For sure!
Dude: Got any Smiths?
Me: No, I don’t. You realize this is a sixties night?
Dude: Yeah, but can you play the Smiths?
Me: Sir, did you hear what I said before?
Dude: Just, could you play, like, “Ask”?
Me: Look, the Smiths are like my all-time favourite band ever. But this is a sixties night and the Smiths are from the eighties so I didn’t bring any of their albums!
Dude: Okay. How about “How Soon is Now?”

I love that you called him ’sir’. I just don’t imagine an exceptionally wasted man as a ’sir’, but your lady-like decorum was fitting for a sixties night. Appropriate!

You could have at least played the guy some Sandie Shaw or Twinkle’s version of “Golden Lights”.

Blew my Sandie Shaw load early (”Girl Don’t Come”, for the record).
Haha! Come! Load! Wooooo!

God, this entry reminds me of basically every night at the Toucan. Ever. Just subtract The Smiths and insert Aesop Rock.
