In my (almost) three decades on this planet, I have lived to witness three key moments in our collective history. Three moments with huge and undeniable resonance.
The first was the fall of the Berlin Wall. I was nine years old and far too young to understand the significance of the event, but I do remember that what I was watching was very important to a lot of people.
The second was September 11, 2001. This does not require comment.
The third was seeing an African-American president elected to lead a country that once espoused the slavery of African-American people.
Barack Obama is a calm, stately, sincere, classy, confident and brilliant family man who has faced adversity since birth and who has a good head on his shoulders. His ideas and values give me hope and his words often move me to tears. He has my trust and somehow already inspires my fervent love (and I’m a Canadian, even).
Granted, he’s only human. I’m not expecting miracles here. That said, I don’t think we could have collectively dreamed of a more worthy candidate to lead the United States and the world into the future.
This shit is fucking incredible.
