Why, it’s a large box addressed to me!

Look at all of this paper! I wonder what could be nestled inside! A couple of pairs of shoes? Oooh, perhaps someone was thoughtful enough to send me a toaster oven…

What the….?

Oh, right. It’s the two tiny replacement trackpoint pads that cost me $24 in total ($11 for the two, plus an absurd amount for shipping). This makes total sense. Thanks, IBM!

This would be a perfect submission to The Consumerist. They love ridiculous wastes of packaging like this. This could have been done with a postcard and a piece of tape.

  2. feygele says:

That’s… just… wow. I’m glad those GIANT TRACKPOINT PADS were sufficiently wrapped and protected since they’re so delicate and breakable.

  3. Ry says:

Since IBM sold its PC group to Lenvo, I’m not sure you are really dealing with IBM.

  4. sofi says:

In that case, screw you Lenvo!

Dude, ever consider buying these laptop nipples from Ebay? They usually run you 5.00 inc. shipping!

Ive had the same thing happen, except they shipped it to me in a 21″ CRT monitor box.

    WTF

  8. sofi says:

I checked eBay after my shipment was sent out. LESSON LEARNED!

That’s outrageous. It’s equally outrageous that you’d pay $24 for a part that sells for 25 cents.

  10. JC says:

I work for a authorized lenovo repair center. they do the same thing on parts they are paying to ship us under warranty. With that said, I don’t think it’s them trying to screw consumers on shipping, but I do think it’s a huge waste and if they would address the issue they could probably sell computers at a more reasonable price point.

[...] IBM shipping stupidity 23Jan08 Take a look at how IBM shipped a couple of replacement trackpoint covers (those little red pencil-eraser thingys) to a customer in Canada.  Tell me the company isn’t nuts… Filed under: Stories   |   [...]

Gotta love the Lenovo Thinkpad ad by Google showing up right next to this :D
