In keeping with my recent singleton angst (which you’re probably tired of hearing about by now) I watched a really wonderful but incredibly depressing documentary last night at the urging of my friend Katie.
“Lovable” is a doc about single women (and one single man) who want love to come into their lives, but are realizing that they are getting older and it’s possible that it might never happen for them.
There was a “viewer discretion” warning for the foul language.
I think there should have been this additional warning:
VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED
The following program contains scenes of smart, interesting, artsy, attractive, creative, kind-hearted and open-minded women who are alone and will probably die alone. They are just like you. You would do well to open a nice bottle of Scotch right this very second in order to numb yourself against the stunning realization that love is far from inevitable, even (and maybe even especially) if you are totally awesome.
The music was excellent, though! As was the doc as a whole.
If only director/singleton Alan Zweig were 30 years younger. A neurotic, self-deprecating music geek? And JEWISH? Totally my type.
“Lovable” will be re-broadcast this Sunday (May 6th) at 10PM on TVO.
